Due to the ongoing invasion by Russia, a new survey released by WHO showed that one in three households with a chronically ill patient is unable to secure medical aid. The nationwide assessment was conducted by collecting data from about 1,000 households. The preliminary results showed that two out of five households had at least one member with long-term conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or cancer. Out of the total, 30% of the households sought out healthcare services while the rest of the 70% population stated security and unavailability of the healthcare services in the area as the reason behind the situation.

WHO has reached 7.5 million people with life-saving supplies, equipment, and medicines, the agency was unable to reach some of the worst affected areas in the east where the whole medical system has crumbled down. However, Ukraine’s healthcare sector is facing multiple challenges such as the risk of infection, increasing waterborne diseases, reduced immunization against Covid 19, etc. Also, accessibility to reproductive, neonatal care, and mental care has been severely compromised due to security, mobility, broken supply chain, and displacement from residential areas.
